• After 3 weeks of watery diarrhea, I went to a GI specialist who that day prescribed an antibiotic, Xifaxan, that he described as "the best" but pretty expensive. He looked up my drug plan and saw that it "was covered". His idea of "covered" isn't mine! This drug, which retails for over $1200 for 10 days, would have cost me $400 and I would be unable to refill it, despite my doctor's belief that I would need it for an additional 10 days. I spent a couple of days of intensive research, reading National Institutes of Health studies, Mayo Clinic information, and pretty much anything else I could get my hands on that would suggest alternative (herbal) therapy.
