Is there any research to support Saffron Extract?

• A clinical study was conducted in May 2011 on a group of healthy and slightly overweight women over an 8-week period. These women were not restricted in their caloric intake, and were allowed to eat at will.Half of the group was fed 1 capsule of saffron extract (176.5 mg) a day, and the other half a placebo. The women kept a daily snacking log, and weight and inches lost was measured. It was found at the end of the 8-week period that the women who consumed the saffron extract had "a significantly greater body weight reduction than placebo."
